The opening of Pavilions Teignmouth the new arts, community and enterprise centre for Teignbridge provides a welcome boost for the local economy. The centre will directly create 10 local jobs and a further 50 in the wider area over the coming months.

The new centre is funded by £2.5 million from Teignbridge District Council, nearly £540,000 from Arts Council England and £1.75 million from the Coastal Communities fund.

The Pavilions Teignmouth charitable trust which today signed a 99 year lease with Teignbridge Council will directly employ six staff to manage artistic and community development as well as the operation of the building.

Cllr Doug Hellier-Laing, Teignbridge District Council’s executive spokesman for economy, skills and tourism, said: “This is such an exciting time for Teignbridge and those who live, work and visit the district. Pavilions Teignmouth will provide arts, community and enterprise for all; a real cultural hub that promotes creativity and diversity.

“Teignbridge’s investment of £2.5million represents a real commitment to developing and supporting arts in all their forms, supporting the economy and delivering entertainment for all. With the Pavilions new programme just being announced and Radio 1 Big Weekend also coming to Teignbridge in May, this part of Devon is definitely the place to be this summer.”

Margaret Davidson, Trustee Chairman added: “We are proud that not only will the centre deliver arts and community opportunities but it also brings new, flexible jobs and a home for small businesses.”

The View café and bar will be operated by local businessman, Steve Boricic of Cheechi’s Ltd and will employ up to 20 staff.

“I’ve been in the hospitality industry since I was 15,” says Mr Boricic. I’ve worked my way up from pan washer to company director. I’ve lived in Teignmouth and the surrounding areas for nearly seven years and I’m passionate about the place.

“The design of the View Bar & café is inspired by Teignmouth’s industrial

and coastal heritage. We’ve created a venue we believe is in touch with the town’s history whilst being in keeping with the Pavilions modern build.”

Pavilions Teignmouth also has eight offices. Five are being let to local firms. These include: aerial film and photography company Sky Pro Productions, environmental consultancy Case Environmental, online media specialists Aquamarine Media, SA:SI who provide relationship counselling and personal development coaching and the hpPrinterStore an HP printer specialist run by a team of local people.
